Revised PBF Guidelines launched
New York, 9 November 2009 - The Peacebuilding Support Office (PBSO) today released the revised PBF Guidelines and associated PBF Templates and References. The PBF Guidelines have been informed by consultations with key PBF stakeholders, including the UNDP MDTF Office, the departments, funds, programmes and agencies represented on the Senior Peacebuilding Group, the PBF Advisory Group, and PBF implementation partners in the field.

First batch of PBF projects approved in Nepal
Kathmandu, August 2009 - The UN Peace Fund for Nepal Executive Committee, which allocates PBF projects in Nepal on the basis of the PBF Nepal Priority Plan, has approved the first four projects to be funded through the PBF contribution to Nepal. Second Consolidated Annual Progress Report on Activities Implemented under the Peacebuilding Fund (2008)
New York, 14 July 2009 - The UNDP MDTF Office, in its capacity as the Administrative Agent of the Peacebuilding Fund, presented today the "Second Consolidated Annual Progress Report on Activities Implemented under the Peacebuilding Fund (2008)". Part II of the Annual Progress Report includes separate sections on PBF-activities in the following countries: Burundi, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Sierra Leone, as well as the Emergency Window.

Review of the Peacebuilding Fund
4 June 2009 - In early 2009, Canada, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the UK jointly commissioned a review of the Peacebuilding Fund. The review was carried out by two independent consultants and built further on some of the findings of the 2008 OIOS evaluation of the PBF. The focus of the joint review was to look at how to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of PBF mechanisms and operating modalities in order to achieve the PBF’s stated aims. The Peacebuilding Support Office and UNDP Multi-Donor Trust Fund Office were represented on the review Steering Group along with the commissioning donors. The final report puts forward a number of specific recommendations and benchmarks for implementation in order to contribute to the ongoing PBF reform effort. The full report is available here.

PBF Donors Briefing Meeting
New York 15 January 2009 - The Peacebuilding Support Office (PBSO) briefed donors on the status of the PBF and updates on PBF-supported activities (see PBSO presentation). PBSO also presented an overview of projects with a particular focus on women and peacebuilding, as well as the latest PBF Bulletin.

PBF: The 3rd Peacebuilding Fund Advisory Group Meeting
New York, 15 – 16 Oct 2008 - The third meeting of the PBF Advisory Group, chaired by HE Ms Marjatta Rasi, was convened on 15-16 October 2008 at the UN Secretariat, New York. The Advisory Group Members reviewed PBF financial and performance reports, and shared ideas on reviewing the PBF Terms of References. The Group also received a briefing on the preparation of the Secretary-General's Report on Peacebuilding and Early Recovery. In the afternoon of 16 October, the Secretary-General interacted with Advisory Group Members on how the PBF can be expanded and strengthened to better support UN peacebuilding processes. In doing so he emphasized the importance of the PBF as a vital peacebuilding instrument. More on the work of the PBF Advisory Group.

Revised Sierra Leone PBF Priority Plan approved
Freetown/New York, 10 Oct 2008 - The Revised Priority Plan for the Peacebuilding Fund in Sierra Leone, with its five strategic priority areas in support of the ongoing peacebuilding process in the country, has been approved. The five priority areas are: Youth Empowerment and Employment, Democracy and Good Governance, Justice and Security, Support to Increased Energy and Capacity Building of Public Administration.

Nepal PBF Priority Plan approved
Kathmandu/New York, 15 Sept 2008 - The Priority Plan for the Peacebuilding Fund in Nepal, with its three strategic priority areas in support of the ongoing peacebuilding process in the country, has been finalized.

Launch of the Secretary-General’s Report on the Peacebuilding Fund
3 September 2008 - In launching the Report, the Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said that the PBF has made great strides since its creation. Monrovia, 9 August 2008 – The Liberia PBF Joint Steering Committee has approved four additional projects with UNHCR and UNDP as Recipient UN Organizations.

Freetown, 15 July 2008 – The Sierra Leone PBF Steering Committee has approved seven additional projects with IOM, UNIFEM, UNICEF and UNDP as Recipient Organizations.

New York, 25 Jun 2008 - Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced today the Comoros and Guinea Conakry elibible to receive funding from the PBF.

Quarterly PBF Donors Briefing Meeting
New York 24 June 2008 - The Peacebuilding Support Office (PBSO) briefed donors on the status of the PBF, updates on Fund supported activities and the 2008 workplan (see PBSO presentation), while the UNDP Multi-Donor Trust Fund Office, as the PBF Fund Manager/Administrative Agent, presented the First Consolidated Annual Progress Report for the PBF for the period to 31 December 2007. An update on the external evaluation of the PBF was provided by UN Office for Internal Oversight Services (OIOS), while PBSO outlined the post-evaluation review processes that will enable the Secretary General to request the General Assembly to the review the PBF Terms of References. The meeting was enriched by a presentation on the Reconciliation project in Nimba County, Liberia, funded by the PBF Emergency Window.

New York, 16 Apr 2008 – The Head of the Peacebuilding Support Office, Ms Carolyn McAskie, based on the PBF Senior Policy Group's endorsement of the Guinea-Bissau PBF Interim Priority Plan, has approved a funding envelope for Guinea-Bissau of $6 million.

Quarterly PBF Donors’ Briefing Meeting
New York, 15 Apr 2008 – A PBF Donors’ Briefing Meeting was convened on 15 April 2008, foremost, to update donors to the Peacebuilding Fund on the status of the PBF and its activities during the period 1 December 2007 to 31 March 2008 (see PBSO-presentation on the status of the PBF). The meeting also provided an opportunity for Ms. Marjatti Rasi, Chair of the PBF Advisory Group to share the outcome of the second Advisory Group meeting held on 5-6 March 2008. The Guinea-Conakry project on ‘Supporting National Dialogue in Guinea Conakry” funded from the PBF Emergency Window was show-cased at the meeting, with interventions by Ms. Mbaranga Gasarabwe, UN Resident Coordinator/Resident Representative and Mr. La Tortue, ex-Prime Minister of Haiti and Chief Facilitator engaged to facilitate the dialogue process. Donors were also appraised on the upcoming independent evaluation of the PBF in 2008 to be undertaken by the UN Office for Oversight Services.

New York, 12 Apr 2008 – The ASG for Peacebuilding Support has approved the UNDP-executed project "Renforcement de la sécurite à la prison civile de Port-au-Prince, Haïti" for funding from the Emergency Window.

Secretary-General declares Guinea-Bissau eligible for PBF
New York, 13 Mar 2008 – The Secretary-General declared today Guinea Bissau eligible for support from the Peacebuilding Fund. This important announcement comes in response to a decision of the Peacebuilding Commission on 20 February, in its country-specific configuration on Guinea-Bissau, to advise the Secretary-General to declare the country eligible. The amount of the country allocation will be determined at a later stage, based on the outcome of consultations between the Government of Guinea-Bissau and the United Nations. Presentations on the Peacebuilding Fund in Burundi and Liberia
New York, 5 Mar 2008 – The second meeting of the PBF Advisory Group was convened on 5-6 March 2008. Prior to the meeting, the Permanent Mission of Finland to the UN convened a Seminar entitled "Catalytic Action for Peacebuilding: Examples of the UN Peacebuilding Fund", co-chaired by HE Ms Marjatta Rasi, Under-Secretary of State for Development in FInland and Chair of the PBF Advisory Group, and HE Ms Carmen María Gallardo Hernández, Permanent Representative of El Salvador to the UN and Vice-Chair of the Peacebuilding Commission. During the Seminar, presentations were made on Burundi by H.E. Ambassador Nahayo, Permanent Mission of Burundi to the UN, and on Liberia by HE Ms Estelle K. 1 March 2007 - The Secretary-General has announced that an allocation of US$35 million will be made from the Peacebuilding Fund in support of Sierra Leone. The Peacebuilding Fund is funded through voluntary contributions and seeks to address critical peacebuilding priorities identified jointly by the Government and the United Nations and was created in late 2006 as part of the new peacebuilding architecture.
