Guinea-Bissau Peacebuilding Fund Overview

Guinea-Bissau is the third country to be made eligible for funding under the first PBF Window; countries that are before the Peacebuilding Commission (PBC).

The Peacebuilding Fund has allocated $6 million to support the Guinea-Bissau PBF Interim Priority Plan.

A Guinea-Bissau PBF Interim Priority Plan has been developed by the Government of Guinea-Bissau and the United Nations and endorsed by the PBF Senior Policy Group.

Second Consolidated Annual Progress Report on Activities Implemented under the Peacebuilding Fund (2008)
New York, 14 July 2008 - The UNDP MDTF Office, in its capacity as the Administrative Agent of the Peacebuilding Fund, presented today the "Second Consolidated Annual Progress Report on Activities Implemented under the Peacebuilding Fund (2008)". Part II of the Annual Progress Report includes a separate Section II: Guinea Bissau.

$6 million allocated to Guinea-Bissau
New York, 16 Apr 2008 – The Head of the Peacebuilding Support Office, Ms Carolyn McAskie, based on the PBF Senior Policy Group's endorsement of the Guinea-Bissau PBF Interim Priority Plan, has approved a funding envelope for Guinea-Bissau of $6 million.

Secretary-General declares Guinea-Bissau eligible for PBF
New York, 13 Mar 2008 – The Secretary-General declared today Guinea Bissau eligible for support from the Peacebuilding Fund. This important announcement comes in response to a decision of the Peacebuilding Commission on 20 February, in its country-specific configuration on Guinea-Bissau, to advise the Secretary-General to declare the country eligible. The amount of the country allocation will be determined at a later stage, based on the outcome of consultations between the Government of Guinea-Bissau and the United Nations.
