Chad
Overview
Water well built by UNDP Engineers from the United Nations Mission in the Central African Republic and Chad (MINURCAT) erect a tent that will serve as a post for the Détachement Intégré de Sécurité (DIS), in Goz Amer, in the Goz Beïda region of Eastern Chad. The DIS, a Chadian police force supported by MINURCAT, provides security for internally displaced persons and refugees in the area.

Chad Overview

In Chad, the PBF provided – on short notice – $2 million of bridging support for the Détachement Integré de Securité (DIS). This national security force plays an essential role in stabilizing Eastern Chad. The PBF contribution to UNDP and UNHCR helped the UN ensure a smooth transition during United Nations Mission in Central African Republic and Chad (MINURCAT) withdrawal in 2010.

Further funding was provided later in the year for the DIS by the US and the European Union.  In May 2011, the Secretary-General declared Chad eligible for additional PBF funding.
